THE ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE IN BIBLE AND THEOLOGY The Associate of Arts degree in Bible and Theology requires the completion of sixty (60) semester hours of work.
Introduction
The Associate of Arts degree is designed to give an individual some basic knowledge on the Bible and in theology. The integrated courses of this degree can serve as two years of the Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Pastoral ministry.
Objectives
The objectives of the Associate of Arts degree are:
- The student will gain some basic knowledge of the Bible and Theology.
- The student will learn to build sermons.
- The student will gain confidence to enter the Bachelor of Arts program.
Program Summary
The Associate of Arts degree requirements include a minimum of 60 semester hours. The degree requirements include a minimum of:
18 hours of General Education Requirements
30 hours of Bible and Theology Requirements
12 hours of Professional Requirements
NOTE: Thirty (30) semester hours of applicable course credit may be transferred from other similar institutions toward the Associate of Arts degree upon the approval of the Division Chairperson and the Academic Dean.
Bachelor of Arts
BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN GENERAL STUDIES
Introduction
This program is designed to equip student its with a well-rounded education in the Biblical, general and liberal arts areas. Students are equipped to work for social agencies, state, county, city or anywhere a Bachelor of Arts degree is required other than in a specified area. This program will also provide the undergraduate basis for further graduate studies.
Objectives Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform the following skills:
- Develop and lead a church ministry with a great understanding of the Bible.
- Enter politics as a servant of Jesus Christ.
- To use skills as a social scientist.
- To administrate effectively in any job situation.
Program Summary
This four-year program gives students a broad introduction into ministry of a local church or the secular work force.
A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation. Following is the program requirements and course sequences.
The degree requirements include a minimum of:
18 semester hours of Bible
15 semester hours of Theology
3 semester hours of Christian Education
3 semester hours of Church History
3 semester hours of Philosophy
9 semester hours of free electives
Integrated with the biblical training are 76 semester hours of carefully selected general education liberal arts subjects to provide a balanced background for Christian service and work in the secular world. BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN GENERAL STUDIES
(BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION CONCENTRATION)
Introduction
This program is designed to prepare students to assume responsible leadership roles in business or pursue graduate studies.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform the following skills:
- Use oral, analytical, and theoretical training for management and business leadership.
- Properly teach and apply the Word of God in business practices.
- Participate in the business world with a philosophy built on Jesus Christ.

This four-year program gives students a broad introduction into the business world. A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation.
The degree requirements include a minimum of:
18 hours of Bible
12 hours of Theology
33 hours of Business
15 hours of Electives

BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN GENERAL STUDIES
BIOLOGY AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONCENTRATION
(BIOLOGY MAJOR)
Introduction
This program is designed to prepare students to work in the area of research or hospital and clinic laboratories.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform the following skills:
- Develop and teach Bible studies
- Work in a hospital as a laboratory technician
- Work as a Researcher
- Enter into an educational program and become a teacher.

This four-year program gives students a broad introduction into the world of biology and research. A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation.

BIOLOGY AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONCENTRATION
(PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAJOR)
Introduction
This program is designed to prepare students to work in the area of physical fitness or sports.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform the following skills :
- Develop and teach Bible studies
- Perform First Aid
- Officiate basketball and baseball games
- Develop Recreation programs
- Conduct Physical Fitness programs
- Serve as a coach
Program Summary
This four-year program gives students a broad introduction into the world of sport activities and physical fitness. A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation.
The degree requirements include a minimum of:
18 hours of Bible
12 hours of Theology
31 hours of Biology and Physical Education
15 hours of Electives
Integrated with the Biblical and Biology and Physical Education training are approximately 50 semester hours of general education liberal arts subjects to provide a balanced background for operating in Christian service and the world of physical fitness.
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN GENERAL STUDIES
(BIBLE, THEOLOGY AND CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CONCENTRATION)
Introduction
The program is designed to prepare students to be Christian Education directors, superintendent of church school and youth ministers.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform the following skills:
- Develop and teach Bible study.
- Organize and direct a Christian education program.
- Organize a Sunday school program.
- Exercise leadership in the local church.
Program Summary
This four-year program gives students a broad introduction into the world of Christian education. A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation.
The degree requirements include a minimum of:
24 hours of Bible
18 hours of Theology
12 hours of Church History
9 hours of Christian Education
6 hours of Electives
Integrated with Bible, Theology and Christian Education and 57 hours of general liberal arts subjects to provide a balanced background for operating in Christian service.
NOTE: A student who holds an Associate of Arts degree or above from an accredited school can enter this program and only complete the 63 hours in Bible, Theology, Christian Education and Church History.
BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE
(BIBLE AND PASTORAL MINISTRY)
Introduction The Bible and Pastoral Ministry program seeks to produce preachers able to exhibit high degrees of proficiency in exegesis, interpretation, sermon preparation and delivery. The program places special emphasis upon local church leadership in such areas as evangelism, and education.
Objective The objective of this program is to provide individualized instruction, which will enable a student to exhibit the following skills:
- Develop and deliver sermons.
- Minister proficiently in all the ministries of the local church.
- Function effectively in a pastoral role.
- Exercise leadership in the local church.
Program Summary The Bible and Pastoral Ministry Degree requirements include a minimum of 126 semester hours. The degree requirements include a minimum of:

Admission
The course of study leading to the Master of Arts degree is opened to all persons holding the baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a recognized college or university.
Graduates from non-accredited colleges are admitted conditionally. This condition is removed once the student demonstrates the ability to pursue graduate work successfully. Every student who enters must prove to be of sound moral character and worthy of the Christian ministry.
Course Requirements
A total of thirty (30) semester hours are required for the Master's degree. A thesis is not required for this degree. At the completion of the thirty (30) semester hours a student must pass a comprehensive examination.
Master of Arts Degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministry Concentration
Distribution of credit hours as follows:
1. Bible (OT 501 & NT 501) 6 hours
2. Theology (CT 501 & CT 502) 6 hours
3. Pastoral Theology (PT 501, 502 & 503) 9 hours
4. Church History (CH 501) 3 hours
5. Electives for Christian Education 6 hours
6. Electives for Pastoral Ministry 3 hours
7. The candidate for graduation must complete at least nine (9) hours of courses in residence at Selma University .
8. Twenty-one (21) hours of applicable course credits may be transferred from an accredited institution toward the degree upon the approval of the Division Chairperson and the Academic Dean.
